What to expect from a solar survey

What to expect from a solar installation

Costs & Financials:

How much does a solar system cost?

The cost varies based on system size. For a higher usage household, we will encourage you to have a larger system to meet the property demand. The average cost for a medium-sized system is £7,500 – £9,500 and the average price for a larger system is between £11,000 – £15,000. Property surveys are crucial for accurate pricing due to various variables. These examples do include battery storage.

How long does solar take to pay for itself?

Typically, it takes 3-8 years. High – medium users may have a higher initial cost (11k-15k) but a quicker return (3-5 years). Low-medium users may have a quote of 7.5k-9.5k with a payback period of 5-8 years. Again, these examples do include battery storage.

Is battery only good return on investment?

Battery storage is now a good return on investment since the government reduced VAT to 0%. If you have room for solar, we will always try and point you down this route because it will speed up your return on investment. If you have a tight budget, you can get a battery system for £3500 – £6000

Is solar only a good return on investment?

Again, solar only does return your investment fast but battery storage is recommended. 9 out of 10 of our customers choose to have battery storage as well as solar. If you have a tight budget, you can get a medium size solar system for £5000 – £7000

Will solar come down in price?

Solar and battery storage has dropped in price over the last 16 months by 20% – 30%. This is due to how popular it has become since wholesale gas prices increased. Solar manufacturing has become lots cheaper since they started mass producing equipment. Also, technology has taken a large step forward. Prices are starting to increase due to the shipping lane on the Suez canal being affected. We have been warned by our wholesalers there will be a jump in costs, but this is not yet been confirmed.

Do I pay VAT on solar products or labor?

No, Solar and battery storage is 0% VAT and this also covers all labor and products needed to install your system. This means your whole system, and everything needed will be 0% VAT

Survey Questions:

How long does a survery take?

A property survey for a full solar installation typically spans 30 to 60 minutes, contingent on the system’s complexity and the number of questions you may have.

What does a survey consist of?

To initiate the process, we engage in a brief conversation to understand your preferences and solar system requirements. If you’re unsure about the system size, we provide expert advice based on your annual usage. The next step involves a thorough assessment of your roof space to determine the optimal system size and identify the appropriate mounting application for your roof type. We also inspect your electrical setup, including the electric meter and consumer unit and look at what scaffolding is required.

Once we have a clear understanding of your roof and electrical infrastructure, we discuss potential locations for the solar equipment installation. Upon agreement on the installation plan, we outline the cable routing strategy for your solar system. As the installation details are finalized, we provide insights into the products we install, explaining their specifications and warranty periods. Additionally, we introduce you to CRC as a company, highlighting why we believe we are the ideal choice for your new solar installation.

To ensure you are well-informed, we leave you with a comprehensive folder containing detailed product information. This allows you to review our proposed solutions at your convenience. Before concluding our meeting, we inquire if you have any remaining questions and leave you to enjoy the rest of your day.

Do I need anything for the survey?

We request that you are home and available for the appointment. If you know your annual usage, great! If not, having a bill ready can help us estimate your needs accurately.

Will it be a salesman who attends?

No, CRC is a family-run business that doesn’t employ salesmen. Your survey will be conducted by either Josh, our project manager, or more likely Christian, the company owner and electrician.

Once the survey is completed, will you need to come back if we go ahead?

Typically, we aim to take all measurements, photos, and videos during your survey, eliminating the need for another visit. If you have questions or wish to make changes, we can handle these through email or phone calls.

Will you be in contact after the survey?

We prioritize a non-pressure approach. We will leave you to make a decision without pressure. Expect an email from us after 1-2 weeks to ensure you received the quote and address any further queries you may have.
